To say that I have a lot to learn about what is affectionately called "the beautiful game" would be on the order of saying "that Messi guy's pretty good." To me, a pitch something you do with a baseball, not something on which you play. A kit is for drums and football is, well let's not mention that egg looking thing. But as we look for ways to connect our family to our future home in Kenya, soccer is quickly becoming one of those bridges to the culture that lies ahead. This is thanks to our son's interest in the sport with his friends, who have taken us along for the educational ride. Last week we attended our first professional (USL) game in St Louis, seating him in section 13, seat 13, in honor of his 13th birthday. Though delayed by lightning, the weather held long enough to give us our first up close taste of real football talent, hopefully not our last. (And the home team won, which was fun, even though we had no horse in this race) It was also a reminder of the many things that we have to learn and to look forward to as we prepare for life in Kenya.
Peace,
-Derek
